Iran, Israel & America — War situation

Iran, Israel & America — War situation as of July 2026

Here’s what’s happening right now, based on latest reports:

How it started

- The current fighting resumed after an interim deal collapsed. It kicked off with a US-Israeli attack on Iran on Feb 28, 2026.

- The main flashpoint is control of the Strait of Hormuz — about 20% of the world’s oil passes through there. 92e4ea62

What’s going on now

1. US strikes on Iran

   - US forces have been hitting Iranian military targets for 13 consecutive nights as of July 24, 2026. Targets include IRGC sites, maritime capabilities, drone storage, bridges, and logistics.

   - President Donald Trump warned of a “massive” attack and said Iran “needs more pain” before negotiating. US says strikes are to stop threats to commercial shipping.

   - The US also said it will use frozen Iranian assets to pay for ships damaged in the Gulf.

2. Iran’s response

   - Iran rejected a US ceasefire proposal delivered via Iraq.

   - Iran warned it could strike US-linked infrastructure and energy facilities across the region if attacks continue.

   - IRGC said it attacked and stopped oil tankers in Hormuz and blockaded the strait “to avenge” the Feb 28 strikes.

   - Iran announced Hormuz was “completely closed until further notice” on July 11.

3. Israel’s role

   - Israel has mostly stayed on the sidelines of the latest US bombing campaign. Israeli officials say economic pressure on Iran is working and they have “no interest in pushing themselves in” right now.

   - But Israel says it’s prepared if attacked and has previously hit nuclear sites like Arak and Ardakan.

   - There’s tension between Trump and Netanyahu over how far to go.

4. Regional spillover

   - Houthis in Yemen launched missiles at Israel on March 28.

   - Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait have intercepted Iranian drones/missiles.

   - US has surged 17 ships, including 2 carrier strike groups, to the Middle East.

   - GCC + Jordan condemned Iran’s attacks as aggression. 43983f83ff87d2da3c4b92e4e7aaea629bb2f8fb

Key issues driving it

- Strait of Hormuz: Both sides are fighting over who controls shipping. Iran says it will charge fees, US says it must stay open.

- Nuclear program: US and Israel want to degrade Iran’s capabilities. Israel’s goal is to “weaken the regime’s existence”.

- Ceasefire talks: Mediators from Pakistan have been trying, but no deal yet. 9bb2d2daea6292e4

Public sentiment

- In the US, polls show 59% opposed military action and 92% want the conflict to end quickly.

- In Israel, 82% supported ongoing military operations in March. 72a1

Bottom line: It’s not a full-scale declared war with ground troops, but a sustained air/missile campaign + naval standoff centered on Iran, with the US leading strikes, Israel coordinating but largely holding back, and Iran responding with threats and regional attacks. The Strait of Hormuz is the economic chokepoint everyone is focused on.
