A few Wachtell Lipton lawyers made headlines for office relationships. Senior partner Bill Savitt reportedly dated partner Sarah Eddy after separating from his wife. No firm rule was broken.  Savitt just moved to Gibson Dunn with a reported $96M pay package and brought Eddy plus 4 others with him.  Another pair, junior partner Nathaniel Cullerton and associate Kelsey Borenzweig, were filmed kissing in Central Park. Cullerton’s Gibson Dunn offer was pulled because of the power imbalance. Savitt denies it was an affair. Gibson Dunn hasn’t commented. want it even shorter, like for a tweet?

LA pastor Kathryn Krick is back in controversy after videos from her Texas book signing for "Ignite Revival" showed people collapsing, shaking, and convulsing as she prayed over them. Krick leads Five-Fold Church and has 500k+ Instagram followers. Supporters call it miraculous healing and deliverance. Critics, including Bible teacher Mike Winger and Pastor Chris Rosebrough, accuse her ministry of cult-like behavior and false teachings. Krick says the backlash is jealousy and misunderstanding. The viral videos keep fueling debate between those who see miracles and those warning about vulnerable believers.

 Eric Bieniemy's wife, Mia Bieniemy, 57, was shot at their home in Ashburn, Virginia on Sunday night. She was shot in the chest and arm and is in stable condition. Their 27-year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He is being held without bond in Loudoun County. Eric Bieniemy was with the Chiefs at training camp in Missouri at the time. He left camp to be with his family. Head coach Andy Reid called Mia "a saint" and said pass game coordinator Joe Bleymaier will take over Eric's duties for now.

 Kevin Baillie, former VP and head of creative at Netflix’s Eyeline Studios, was fired in April 2026 from his $1.1 million/year job after sharing at a company “trust exercise” that he had taken medically prescribed ketamine for depression in late 2022.  He says Netflix investigated him for it, and his lawyer claims the company cited the ketamine therapy as a factor in the firing and denied him severance. Baillie’s lawsuit also mentions the company’s drinking culture and alleges profanity was not an issue before.  He’s suing for a jury trial, lost wages, emotional distress damages, and punitive damages. Netflix and Eyeline have been contacted for comment.

 Short News: 49ers Coach Kyle Shanahan Update 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan is dealing with “lingering effects” from a severe concussion after a July 14 car crash near Palo Alto.  GM John Lynch says Shanahan will be in a “concussion protocol” and limited at training camp. He also suffered a broken nose, 3 broken ribs, broken hand, and 40 stitches. Assistant HC Chris Foerster will be “acting” head coach with help from coordinators Klay Kubiak and Raheem Morris. Lynch expects Shanahan to be back for the Sept 11 opener vs Rams in Melbourne, Australia. Rams coach Sean McVay said he’s spoken to Shanahan and “thank God he’s okay.” The other driver was uninjured. No citations issued.

Short News: Commonwealth Gymnastics Team Final Canada won men’s artistic team gold with 241.400, ending England’s bid for a 4th straight title. England took silver with 238.250 and Australia bronze with 235.650. The final was overshadowed by England’s Gabriel Langton, 19, who fell head-first from high bar and was taken off on a stretcher. He later moved his legs and hands and was applauded by the crowd.  Teammate Luke Whitehouse competed right after and said “gymnastics is such a dangerous sport.”  Canada’s first team gold since 2006. 

Short News: Kaylee Hottle Passes at 18 Kaylee Hottle, deaf actress known as Jia in _Godzilla vs. Kong_ and _Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire_, died at 18 in a 3 a.m. car crash in Maryland on Tuesday. Her mom Ketsi shared a tearful ASL tribute on Instagram, calling it a “privilege to be” Kaylee’s mom. Her dad Joshua also announced the news and traveled to claim her body. The 19-year-old driver had non-life-threatening injuries. Speed is believed to be a factor. The crash is under investigation. Kaylee, from Austin, TX and a Texas School for the Deaf student, started acting at 9 and advocated for deaf actors playing deaf roles. A GoFundMe for her family has passed $20,000. Rest in peace 🕊️

 Short News: Nolan Wells Case Nolan Wells, 18, vanished on July 4 after boating to Horn Island, MS with friends. His friends say he stayed behind to talk to 19-year-old Katie McCormack.  But McCormack’s sister disputes this, saying Katie thought Nolan was getting back on the boat with his friends. Wells’ body was found July 6 in the water off the island. His family has hired lawyer Ben Crump to investigate due to conflicting accounts. No wrongdoing has been suggested against McCormack.

Two young siblings, Mya, 9, and Sigmund “Siggy,” 7, were killed in a boating crash in Barnegat Bay at the Jersey Shore on Sunday night.  Police say their grandfather, Steven Schneider, 63, was driving the 30-foot boat when it struck a lit channel marker around 9 p.m. The kids were thrown into the water and later pronounced dead. First responders tried to save them. No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation. In obituaries, the siblings were remembered as “best friends” who loved swimming, the beach, and each other. “A sibling bond is a love that lasts forever,” their family wrote. 

Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham is standing by her comments on trans athletes. In an ESPN interview, the 29-year-old said she doesn’t hate trans people but wants to “protect young girls” and keep “biological men” out of women’s sports.  On Wednesday she doubled down: “I said what I said. It’s common sense... I stand by what I said.” She added she’s “not political,” calls herself “in the middle,” and believes “there’s room for everyone,” including trans athletes — but also that rights for biological women need protecting. The comments have sparked backlash online, where she’s been labeled “MAGA Barbie,” a label she rejected.

A boater may have captured the last photo of 5 friends alive before they drowned Sunday in the Scioto River, Ohio.   The victims — 2 married couples and a friend, 4 of them from Honduras — died trying to rescue each other after one struggled in the water. The river was running fast and high.   Two young children were left on the bank and are now in Ohio state care. Authorities are working to return the bodies to Honduras and reunite the children with family.
