Lana Del Rey — Glastonbury 2023, Other Stage
_June 24, 2023 | Worthy Farm, Somerset_
The setup
Lana was headlining the Other Stage on Day 4. It was a big deal for her — she told BBC Radio 1 earlier that year it was "unfathomable to me to headline the second stage of Glastonbury". She hadn’t played Glasto since her Pyramid Stage debut in 2014. 819ad64f
Scheduled time: 22:30 – 23:45 cab0
What actually happened
It was chaotic, emotional, and very "Lana" 👇
- 30 minutes late: She came on at ∼23:00. She admitted to nerves and joked: _“I’m so fucking late they may cut my set. I’m sorry, my hair takes so long”_
- The vibe: Barefoot, ditching her diamanté platform sandals, skipping around, counting in measures. NME called it "deliberately playful and patchy" and "pure, messy, unfiltered melodrama"
- The set: Career-spanning. Highlights included:
- Opening with new single ‘A&W’
- ‘Blue Jeans’, ‘The Grants’
- ‘Ride’ in front of a montage of her videos
- ‘Born To Die’, ‘Young and Beautiful’, ‘Arcadia’, ‘White Mustang’
- The cut-off: Because of the delay and Glastonbury’s strict curfew, her mic and screens were switched off mid-set. Songs like ‘Venice Bitch’, ‘Diet Mountain Dew’, ‘Summertime Sadness’, ‘Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’, and ‘Video Games’ were listed as [CUT] 3a32fa669fafa5cea70002c8
The iconic ending
Instead of leaving, Lana dropped her in-ears, fell to her knees, and kept singing with fans at the barrier while roadies packed the stage. Fans sang ‘Video Games’ a cappella with her. 3a3202c8
She later referenced it at BST Hyde Park: _“It’s worth it even if you get the power cut. It’s worth it”_ a700
Reception
- NME gave it 3 stars and called it "45 minutes of pure, messy, unfiltered melodrama"
- Far Out called the ‘Born To Die’ performance a "career-defining" highlight 3a3202c8cab0
Full planned setlist had 19 songs, but only about 14 made it before the cut a70002c8
