Video shows Erik Spoelstra watching as home burns down in sad moment
Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was frantically holding his
head while watching first responders fight a massive fire at his
home in Miami Thursday morning, as seen in video footage by
Local 10 News.
Spoelstra, 41, who arrived on the scene after returning from
the Heat’s 122-112 to the Nuggets in Denver, reportedly looked
visibly distraught while walking around the property.
“Someone asked him on the scene if this was his house… and
he was frantically holding his head on the scene, saying ‘Yes, it
is,'” according to Local 10 News.
Heat assistant coach Chris Quinn reportedly was on the scene
at one point.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze is unclear.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said they were called to a fire at
around 4:36 a.m.
Firefighters found “two structures on the property fully
involved” in fire, and called for backup.
“Due to a partial collapse, units switched to a defensive attack,
and are still working to extinguish the fire,” fire rescue said,
according to NBC Miami.
The fire was contained to the property and no nearby homes
were damaged, county officials said, adding that more than 20
units responded to the fire, fighting it both on the ground and in
the air.
Spoelstra bought the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home in
December 2023, per property records.
