The Neem Tree

 The Neem Tree 🌿

_Scientific name: Azadirachta indica_

Also called "Indian Lilac" or "The Village Pharmacy" in South Asia.

Quick Facts

- Origin: Native to the Indian subcontinent, including Pakistan and India. Now grown in tropical regions worldwide.

- Lifespan: Can live 150-200 years and grow 15-20 meters tall.

- Look: Evergreen, dense canopy, small white flowers with a honey-like smell, and small olive-like fruits.

Why it's famous

Neem is called a "miracle tree" because almost every part is used:

1. Medicine: Leaves, bark, and oil have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. Used in Ayurveda for skin problems, diabetes, immunity, and dental care.

2. Agriculture: Neem oil and neem cake are natural pesticides and fertilizers. They repel insects but are safe for humans and animals.

3. Daily use: Neem twigs are used as toothbrushes. Oil is in soaps, shampoos, and cosmetics. Wood is termite-resistant and used for furniture.

4. Air & Environment: Absorbs pollution, provides shade, and improves soil.

In Pakistan

You'll see neem trees all over Karachi and Sindh. People plant them for shade and use neem leaves for skin issues, fever, and as a natural insect repellent in homes.

Note: While neem has many benefits, neem oil and extracts shouldn't be taken in large amounts internally without medical advice. It can be strong.
